The Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) is seeking tenders for the design, construction, supply, and delivery of a new small research vessel. The vessel will be delivered to AIMS Darwin, Northern Territory, and will support various marine research and maintenance operations. Key requirements include compliance with Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV), a minimum operating life of 10 years, and a focus on reducing whole-of-life costs and environmental impact. Tender responses are due by 4:00 PM local time in Queensland on June 12, 2026. The estimated value is between AUD 300,**** and AUD 400,****, with delivery by June 2028.
The vessel is expected to be delivered during FY ****, with a timeframe for delivery by June 2028.
AIMS intends to use a payment structure that combines monthly payments in advance up to a defined amount to facilitate vessel constructor cashflow, and lump sum payments on completion and acceptance of program milestones.
The contractor will be required to warrant that the vessel, all workmanship, materials, and other deliverables will be seaworthy, satisfy AIMS requirements, be safe and fit for its intended purposes, and that all workmanship is carried out by qualified tradespersons in accordance with survey requirements.
Tenders will be evaluated on a weighted attribute model with technical merits assessed based on: Technical assessment of proposed vessel (40%), Contractor construction experience and capability (20%), Schedule for proposed vessel construction (20%), and Program delivery (20%). Commercial position will also be assessed.
Respondents must have an established and maintained quality management system certified to ISO 9001:2015 or an equivalent standard. They must also confirm compliance with Commonwealth Procurement Rules regarding employee entitlements and the Workplace Gender Equality Act ****.
AIMS may arrange site visits as an optional evaluation step.

Respondents may be excluded for failing to provide requested information, materially breaching RFT terms, submitting a tender with material errors, bankruptcy, making false declarations, serious performance issues, conviction of serious crimes, professional misconduct, failure to pay taxes, or representing a threat to national security.
